This is the third and final installment of director, producer and screenwriter Ti West's trilogy. The first was X: The Mark of Death (2022) and the second Pearl (2022), all starring Mia Goth.
2.Night Stalker
The killer who stalks Hollywood stars in the movie Night Stalker is based on a real case. In the 1980s, a serial killer left dozens of victims and this is not the first time his name has been mentioned in audiovisual works. In 2021, his story was the subject of a documentary miniseries entitled Night Stalker: Torture and Terror.
3.Singer Halsey is in the movie
You may have heard Halsey's hits Closer, Bad At Love, Without Me and Be Kind. The singer is in the cast of MaXXXine and plays Max's friend Tabby Martin. She recently revealed that she auditioned for the production, that she loves the first two films in the franchise and that she admires Ti West.
4.MaXXXine features references to classic horror films
The first trailer for the film was released in April this year and excited horror fans with easter-eggs from classics such as Panic, Psycho and The Shining.
In one of the scenes, Maxine passes in front of the Bates Motel and finds Pearl at the window.
In another scene, a frightening shadow appears, similar to Ghostface in Panic VI.
Finally, Maxine leaves her apartment to pick up a package and the corridor of her building is very reminiscent of the Overlook Hotel from The Shining
5.A mystery about the great villain
The trailer introduces the assassin "Night Stalker". The name is known outside fiction and has a certain coincidence with "MaXXXie". Widely known off-screen, it is a nickname for the murderer Ricardo Leyva Muñoz Ramírez, an American criminal who carried out robberies, kidnappings, rapes and serial murders in the Los Angeles and San Francisco area, in the United States, between 1984 and 1985 - the same year and location as "MaXXXine". The killer even got a documentary miniseries on Netflix in 2021.
